BOGOTA, July 15 (UPI) -- A dramatic video of a Black Hawk helicopter explosion has surfaced in the attack carried out by the left-wing National Liberation army (ELN) in Colombia.
The attack was carried out near the village of El Bejuco in the Teorama municipality in Colombia's Norte de Santander department on June 22. Manuel Perez Martinez, head of the ELN's northeast war front, confirmed days later that the attack was carried out by his men.
The helicopter was initially believed to have crashed. Colombia's National army confirmed the video circulating social media was of the ELN attack.
"On the video circulating... these images correspond to the terrorist action perpetrated by the ELN," the army said in a statement. "The images confirm... that the reasons [for the explosion] was an activation of an explosive charge when the aircraft was on the ground."
The video shows the codename "Bravo" Black Hawk Helicopter descending to the ground and about four military personnel exiting the craft before it exploded in less than 30 seconds.
"What happened?" one of the personnel overseeing the mission asked.
"The 'Bravo' crashed," another is heard responding.
