Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes quickly deleted the message, but not before criticism.

JERUSALEM, June 22 (UPI) -- The wife of Israel's Interior Minister apologized for referring to "Obama coffee" as "black and weak" in a Twitter message.

The joke drew criticism and was quickly removed Sunday from the Twitter account of newspaper columnist and television host Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes, wife of Knesset member, senior Likud party leader and Interior Minister Silvan Shalom.

"Do you know what Obama coffee is? Black and weak" was replaced on Nir-Mozes' Twitter account with "I apologize, that was a stupid joke somebody told me" and "President Obama I shouldn't have written the inappropriate joke I heard. I like people no matter their race and religion. Sorry if I caused any offense to anyone. I hope I will stay married when my husband will land and hears what I did."

The messages come at a time of strained relations between Israel and the United States, and personality clashes between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama in particular. Shalom was appointed by Netanyahu to lead the peace process involving Israel and Palestine.

Shalom did not offer a comment on his wife's opinions as she expressed them on Twitter, although posts from other Twitter users included "You're now rightly tagged as a racist" and "Israel is more than a(n) ignorant stupid rich kid shooting tweets."
