CANCUN, Mexico, April 12 (UPI) -- Cesar Gastelum Serrano, a major drug trafficker in Central America, has been captured by Mexican marines and federal police.

Gastelum Serrano was one of the most wanted drug criminals in the United States. He was captured early on Saturday in Cancun while driving in an area near bars and hotels. Authorities say he was carrying a gun and nearly 25 ounces of cocaine.

The U.S. Treasury Department said Gastelum Serrano was capable of moving tons of cocaine every week for the Sinaloa cartel, with the help of three of his brothers, also targeted by Treasury under the Kingpin Act. Gastelum Serrano's operation was based in Mexico, but he often traveled to other Central American countries. He has been linked to killing law enforcement officials in Honduras.
