CARACAS, Venezuela, March 23 (UPI) -- A bus in Venezuela fell into a ravine after the driver lost control on Sunday, killing at least 11 people and injuring about 36 others.

Some witnesses say the bus driver fell asleep while driving.

The bus was heading from the city of Puerto la Cruz in eastern Venezuela to Maracay, the capital of the state of Aragua. The bus driver was among the dead.

Four other men and six women were killed instantly. Five children were among the injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

There was a similar event last June where 20 people were killed after a bus crashed into a tree on the same highway.
