PHUKET, Thailand, March 21 (UPI) -- A British man visiting Thailand shot himself to death during target practice at a gun range Saturday afternoon, according to reports from Thai media.

Britain's Foreign Office could not confirm the report but said it is "urgently working with the authorities in Thailand to establish whether a British national has died in Phuket."

According to the Bangkok Post, police responded to the shooting range in Thalang district and discovered the shirtless body of a 22-year-old white male. He possessed a British passport, and a pistol lay near his right hand.

Closed-circuit video footage shows the man remove his shirt and rent an 11-mm pistol before hitting the bulls-eye with every shot for a total of seven times, according to the Post. After loading three more rounds, he turned the firearm on himself as an instructor tried unsuccessfully to stop him.

The Post reports that taxi driver Prasert Pasaman, 41, told police he picked the man up from Sunwing Resort & Spa, where the unidentified tourist had argued with another man.

"I then asked him where he wanted to go and he said 'Take me somewhere I can shoot', so I took him to the shooting range," Pasaman said.

According to the Mirror, Pasaman said the tourist had quarreled with someone over the phone while en route to the range. Pasaman reportedly said that otherwise, the man showed no signs of stress.
