BALI, Indonesia, March 18 (UPI) -- Chicago teen Heather Mack, who could face the death penalty in Indonesia if convicted of killing her mother and stuffing her body in a suitcase, gave birth on Tuesday to a baby girl.

The 6-pound, 1-ounce baby girl was born through a cesarean operation, according to her lawyer Anthony Scifo. The baby and Mack are in good health.

If no family members or others can look after the baby, named Stella Schaefer, she can be cared for in prison until she turns 2, according to the chief of Kerobokan Prison.

Drug abuse and filthy conditions are reportedly widespread in Kerobokan Prison.

Mack, 19, and her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, 21, are facing seperate trials related to the death of Sheila von Wiese-Mack, 62, whose body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase on Aug. 12 outside a Bali resort.

Schaefer confessed last week to killing Wiese-Mack, but alleged that it was in self-defense.

Prosecutors said that Wiese-Mack's death was premeditated, alleging the couple exchanged text messages earlier where Mack asked Schaefer to find an assassin for $50,000. Mack denies helping Schaefer.
