BEIJING, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and several Communist Party officials received a 62 percent pay increase to their salary.
President Xi will be making $1,832 a month, about $22,000 a year. The top seven leaders of the Communist Party of China will earn about $1,854 a month.
Civil servants will also see a pay rise. Low-status civil servants's pay will more than double to about $212.
Wages earned by Chinese workers still remain low despite the pay rise in comparison to global standards. Low pay has been linked to corruption.
Recently, President Xi has established crackdowns against government corruption designed to strengthen the authority of the Communist Party.
