WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The FBI warned U.S. military personnel around the world Sunday that it had received threats against them made by the Islamic State.

Warnings were first issued by the Army after Islamic State militants encouraged supporters around the world to seek out U.S. military and "shot up [at their homes] and slaughter them."

"Overseas based individuals are looking for like-minded individuals to carry out these attacks," the FBI warned.

The bulletin warned military personnel to take care in posting on social media so as not to make themselves target.

"We also request members of the military review their online social media presence for any information that might attract the attention of violent extremists," the bulletin said. "Use caution and practice operational security when posting."

Federal officials issued two similar warnings in October. Sunday's warning specifically cited two attacks on members of the Canadian military linked to the Islamic State, including the Oct. 22 attack in Ottawa.
