KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A senior police official was killed and at least seven others were wounded during a suicide bomber attack inside police headquarters in Kabul.

The police bombing was the second of two Sunday morning attacks in Kabul. The attacks are thought to be the work of the Taliban.

In a brazen morning attack, a suicide bomber managed to get inside the heavily guarded police headquarters in Kabul, past several checkpoints undetected, a police spokesman told The New York Times.

Kabul's police chief Gen. Mohammad Zaher told the Washington Post that the bomber was dressed in civilian clothes. The explosives were detonated just outside Zaher's office, killing his chief of staff.

In an earlier attack on Sunday, bombers hit a Ministry of Defense convoy as it traveled on the outskirts of Kabul. No one was killed or injured in that attack.

The Taliban Insurgency has claimed credit for both bombings.

Hours after the attack on police headquarters, a third blast was heard in Kabul, but it was not clear where the explosion came from or if it was another attack.
