BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Argentina's president, was hospitalized Monday with what an official called an "infectious fever."
She checked herself into a Buenos Aires hospital Sunday after feeling ill, a government statement said.
Fernandez, 61, elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, has had a history of health problems. She had surgery last year to relieve bleeding on the brain and missed this year's Independence Day celebrations because of a throat infection.
She is Argentina's first elected female president. Cabinet leader Jorge Capitanich said Monday he had spoken with Fernandez before and after she was hospitalized, but gave no details of her condition.
