THE HAGUE, Netherlands, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Kenya has not cooperated with International Criminal Court prosecutors in collecting evidence regarding the trial of Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, a lawyer said.

Benjamin Gumpert charged in a status update the Kenyan government has not provided evidence, including Kenyatta's bank records and tax returns, for the case in The Hague, Netherlands, in which Kenyatta is charged with crimes against humanity.

The Court accuses Kenyatta of being an indirect co-conspirator in violence after a disputed election in Kenya, in which over 1,100 people were killed in 2007 and 2008. Kenyatta denies the charges.

Githu Muigai, Kenya's Attorney General, responded to Gumpert's assertions by saying the government would consider more specific requests for information regarding Kenyatta, adding the country's "fairly large bureaucracy" requires additional time to fulfill the court's request.

Kenyatta said he would appear at the court Wednesday in a personal capacity, having temporarily relinquished the presidency to Deputy President William Ruto.
