BANGKOK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Two young British tourists were murdered on Koh Tao island, a popular tourist destination in southern Thailand. Their naked bodies were found on the rocky beach Monday.
According to Thai police, the 24-year-old male and 23-year-old female were killed with a hoe that was found bloodied nearby along with their clothes.
The young Brits apparently met during their stay at the same island hotel, said police Maj. Gen. Kiattipong Khawsamang. They were were last seen at a bar together at 1 a.m. based on closed circuit TV footage.
Police are reviewing additional camera footage as the search for the suspect continues.
"We don't know who the suspect might be yet," Kiattipong acknowledged, "but we have talked to different witnesses who might lead us to some clues."
The British Foreign Office said Monday "The embassy are urgently seeking information from the local authorities and consular staff stand ready to provide assistance to friends and family at this tragic time."
