CARACAS, Venezuela, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced this week an initiative to install mandatory fingerprinting at supermarkets in order to curtail hoarding and smuggling, which the government blames for chronic food shortages.
The biometric system, which is expected to be implemented by the end of the year, will track buyers' purchases and prevent shoppers from buying large quantities of the same product.
