Iran releases husband of detained American journalist

Iran has released the husband of a detained American photojournalist. Three of the four journalists detained since last week for unknown reasons are American citizens.

TEHRAN, July 30 (UPI) -- On Tuesday, Iran released one of four journalists who have been detained since last week for unknown reasons.

The four reporters taken into custody by Iranian authorities include three Americans. The detainee released on Tuesday is the husband of one of the Americans who is a photojournalist with dual Iranian citizenship.

The Washington Post has identified two of the detainees, including its own Tehran correspondent, American ctitizen Jason Rezaian, and his wife, Yeganeh Salehi. The Washington Post did not identify the other two detained journalists.

On Friday, Iran's state-run Islamic Republic News Agency confirmed Rezaian's arrest. IRNA quoted Gholam-Hossain Esmaili, director general of the Tehran Province Justice Department, as telling reporters a "Washington Post journalist has been detained for some questions and after technical investigations, the judiciary will provide details on the issue." He added that "Iranian security forces are vigilant towards all kind of enemies' activities."
