2 Christian aid organization workers killed in Afghanistan

Two possibly Finnish aid workers were killed Thursday when the taxi the women were riding in through Herat was attacked by unknown gunmen on a motorcycle. Police are searching for the two unknown assailants.

KABUL, Afghanistan, July 24 (UPI) -- Two foreign workers with International Assistance Mission were killed in western Afghanistan on Thursday.

The two women were shot as they rode in a taxi through Herat by two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle.

Governor Sayed Fazlullah said he thought the aid workers were Finnish nationals.

Their aid organization, IAM, describes itself as an international Christian organization that has been working in Afghanistan since 1966, focused on building capacity in the health sector and economic development.

Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior, wrote via Twitter that a "massive search and hunt operation underway by Police" to find the two gunmen responsible for the murders.
