ISLAMABAD, July 21 (UPI) -- Four women were critically injured in an acid attack in southwest Pakistan on Monday. The women were shopping at a popular retail center in Quetta when two men approached on motorcycle and threw the acid at the women's faces.

Police Superintendent Imran Qureshi told Dawn News that the assailants used syringes to spray the acid while the women stood outside a shop in an area where there are many cosmetic stores.
The women are being treated in the burn unit of the Bolan Medical Complex, Qureshi noted.
An investigation is underway. The Home Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, condemned the attack and declared that the perpetrators would be sought and punished.
No one has yet claimed responsibility.
In a separate attack in Balochistan, suspected separatists detonated an improvised explosive device on Saturday in the Khudzar district. Two people were killed and at least 27 injured in the blast.
Balochistan is an area of Pakistan that borders Iran and Afghanistan, where separatists seek an independent state.
