JERUSALEM , July 2 (UPI) -- Two rockets fired into Israel from Gaza Wednesday were intercepted, and nine mortars landed in Israeli territory without incident, the Israel Defense Force confirmed.

The "Iron Dome" air defense system stopped the rockets over the southern Israel city of Ashkelon and the Sdot Negev Regional Council. Meanwhile, the Israel Air Force struck a mortar launcher in Gaza, used to fire on the Kibbutz Kerem Shalom.
