PARIS, June 19 (UPI) -- French President Francois Hollande condemned an attack on a 16-year-old Roma boy as "unspeakable and unjustifiable."

On Friday, a mob of 200 people descended on a Roma camp in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine and reportedly abducted the teen, who had been accused of burglary, and took him to a cellar where he was severely beaten. He was then dumped in a grocery cart.

His mother alerted police that armed men had taken her son from their makeshift camp near the Cite des Poetes housing estate.

His injuries were so severe that doctors placed the teen in a medically induced coma.

According to the mayor of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, police had questioned the boy on previous occasions concerning robberies in the housing estate.

The Roma community, which set up camp three weeks ago, fled after the teenager was abducted and beaten.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has ordered an investigation into the attack.
