TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, June 17 (UPI) -- Newborns at a Quebec hospital will wear electronic monitoring bracelets, the regional health agency said Tuesday, after a baby was abducted in May.
The Trois-Rivières health agency recommended stricter security measures at the Centre hospitalier régional de Trois-Rivières, including the use of monitoring bracelets, after a newborn was taken from the hospital's maternity ward on May 26.
The day-old baby, named Victoria, was taken from the hospital by a woman dressed as a nurse, and found a few hours later. Police credit a local Amber Alert and information spread on Facebook for the baby's quick and safe return. A suspect, Valérie Poulin Collins, 21, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and abduction.
The health agency also recommended an upgrade to the hospital's video surveillance system.
"This experience shocked us all, and has already prompted (Quebec residents) to be more vigilant. As a health establishment, this has prompted us to review and adjust our security measures," said Lucie Letendre, health agency general director.
