Indicted former Pakistani President Musharraf may travel abroad, court rules

ISLAMABAD, June 12 (UPI) -- Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf may be able to travel abroad soon following a court ruling to remove his name from the Exit Control List.

The former president had been prevented from traveling abroad during his court proceedings, where he faces charges of treason. Musharraf has maintained the charges against him are politically motivated.

Musharraf's attorney, Farogh Naseem, asserted that the court ruling "proved that the cases registered against General Musharaff were politically motivated."

The government has 15 days to appeal the court ruling. If it stands, Musharraf will be allowed to visit his ailing mother in Dubai. His attorney said that Musharraf would return for required court appearances.
