ANKARA , Turkey, June 2 (UPI) -- Turkey's highest court ruled a government blockage of the internet website YouTube is a violation of users' rights and freedom of speech.

The ban on YouTube, on which users can post videos to be seen worldwide, came less than a week after the Turkish government issued a similar ban on Twitter. It added to the outrage against the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's grip on the Internet after it empowered the country's Telecommunications Directorate to begin denying access to websites.

Last month, the high court made a similar ruling regarding Turkey's Twitter ban.

The Constitutional Court will send its decision to the Directorate and to the Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry, with a clear demand to remove the blockage.

As of Sunday, YouTube was still not available to users in Turkey.
