George R.R. Martin explains why he uses DOS to write 'Game of Thrones'

I want "Targaryen" not "tire center."

NEW YORK, May 14 (UPI) -- George R.R. Martin told Conan O'Brien that he uses a DOS word processor to write Game of Thrones because he hates spell-check.

Martin said he owns one computer for browsing the Internet, checking his email and writing his blog. He solely uses a WordStar 4.0 running on a DOS word processing system to write his books. It's not connected to the internet but it's not the fear of a virus or hack that has Martin writing on an archaic system.

"Well, I actually like it. It does everything I want a word processing program to do and it doesn't do anything else," he said. "I don't want any help. I hate some of these modern systems where you type a lowercase letter and it becomes a capital. I don't want a capital. If I wanted a capital, I would have typed a capital. Stop fixing it!"

He went on to say he hates spell checker, especially when he has to write things like The Realm of Orbitor.
