RAQQA, Syria, May 2 (UPI) -- Photographs of two crucified men in Syria were released by Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The very graphic images show two men who are blindfolded and tied to makeshift crosses erected in a traffic circle in Raqqa. It is unclear whether they were killed before they were crucified or if they died on the crosses.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has admitted to executing seven people and crucifying two of them in retribution for a grenade attack that killed a child and injured a man. The banner under one of the men reads, "This man fought against Muslims and threw a grenade in this place."
The images were taken by Abu Ibrahim Alrquaoui, the founder of a group called Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently. He said the men were rebels who had fought against Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
"It’s very dangerous. They threaten us directly and want to kill us," Alrquaoui said of the group.
ISIS if the same group to which Al-Qaida disavowed any connection in a statement this past February.
"ISIS is not a branch of the Qaidat al-Jihad [Al-Qaida's official name] group, we have no organizational relationship with it, and the group is not responsible for its actions."
