On Monday, a Somali parliamentarian was killed and another lawmaker injured in a car bomb attack on their vehicle as they drove to a security conference. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for what the Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed called a "cowardly attack" that claimed the life of "a committed parliamentarian."

The prime minister insisted Tuesday that "the use of terror will not derail us from the progress made in securing Somalia."
