Trial of jailed Al Jazeera journalists adjourns until April 22

CAIRO, April 10 (UPI) -- An Egyptian court adjourned the trial of three Al Jazeera journalists until April 22.

Al Jazeera journalists Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were arrested on terrorism charges in December, and have been detained since. The Egyptian police accused Al Jazeera English in Cairo of being a mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood and using their broadcast location at the Marriott hotel as a meeting venue for Muslim Brotherhood members, an organization the Egyptian government has designated a terrorist group.

The men appeared in court on Thursday for the fifth time since their December arrest.

The prosecution introduced video footage that it claimed supported the charges against the three men. However, none of the footage was produced by Al Jazeera.

The three videos produced by the prosecution included a Sky News Arabia piece about horse welfare, press conference footage following Kenya's Westgate mall attack, and a BBC documentary about Somali pirates.

During a court recess, Greste said "It's obvious the prosecutors have not even looked at our videos." Fahmy charged that "Someone needs to answer for why we've been in prison for four months and there's not been a single bit of evidence."
