n previous years, WWF has led businesses, homes, and landmarks across the world in turning off their lights for Earth Hour. They hope to increase participation even more this year.

"Earth Hour is just a symbolic one hour of turning off the lights and it's telling everybody in the world you have the power to change the world and you can exhibit it in just that one hour by turning off the lights," said WWF Director of Communications Sourav Roy.

"Essentially, it's the largest civil society movement, a conservation movement, which inspires everyone at the grassroots level to do their but and it starts with the first symbolic action of switching off the lights. Then you can go down in more depth and detail in conservation projects around the world."
