Under Secretary of State Sherman visits Kiev to reaffirm U.S. support for Ukraine

U.S. Department of State Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman is in Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian government officials and civil society leaders. Her message, said Secretary of State John Kerry, is that the U.S. stands with the Ukrainian people.

U.S. Department of State Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman visited with Ukrainian officials in Kiev on Friday.

Secretary of State John Kerry's Twitter account posted a photo of Sherman visiting Maidan Nezalezhnosti -- Kiev's Independence Square -- which was the site of anti-government demonstrations that ultimately toppled the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.

The under secretary arrived in Kiev on Thursday for meetings with government and civil society leaders. With all those she meets, "Under Secretary Sherman will reaffirm the United States' strong support for the Ukrainian people and for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
