BENI-SUEF CITY, Egypt, March 19 (UPI) -- Two students died in clashes with security forces Wednesday as university students across Egypt protested harsh government prison sentences, officials said.

The two were reported dead from birdshot wounds at Beni-Suef University in Beni-Suef City. Incidents of violence between security forces and the group Students Against the Coup also occurred at universities in al-Ahzar, Cairo and Alexandria, Daily News Egypt reported Wednesday.

A student coordinator at Cairo University, known as Maria, said the students were angered by a death sentence, confirmed Wednesday, to student Ibrahim Azab.

Youssof Salhen, a spokesman for Students Against the Coup, said security forces stormed the campuses of Alexandria and al-Ahzar Universities, adding the protests were a "sign of rejection of the oppression against students, imprisonment and harsh court verdicts [and] new security measures in some universities that make students feel imprisoned."
