TOKYO, March 18 (UPI) -- A collision between two cargo ships in Tokyo Bay Tuesday morning left one crew member dead, eight missing and one ship sinking, authorities said.
The 12,630-ton Beagle III, a ship with Panamanian registry carrying steel coil, sank after it struck the 7,406-ton Pegasus Prime, registered in South Korea, the Japan Daily Press reported Tuesday.
Twenty Chinese crew members were aboard the Beagle III. One was confirmed dead by the Japan Coast Guard, and eight remain missing, the Japanese news service Jiji Press said. Two of the 14 aboard the Pegasus Prime suffered minor injuries when boarding a lifeboat.
Two navy and coast guard helicopters and 19 patrol boats are searching the Uraga Channel, a busy waterway between Tokyo Bay and the Pacific Ocean, for the missing men, Jiji Press said.
