India deploys naval and air assets to assist search for missing Malayasia Airlines flight 370

The Indian Ministry of Defense announced Friday it has joined the international search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 that disappeared one week earlier in transit from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China.

Amid conflicting theories of what happened to missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370, the international search effort expanded Friday, when India announced it has deployed air and naval assets to the south Andaman Sea.

India's Ministry of Defense said it has contributed navy, coast guard, and air force support. The Indian navy is the lead in the operation, with its New Delhi-based Maritime Operations Center acting as coordinator.

Two Indian aircraft are searching the archipelago from north to south while two coast guard ships are searching the east coast of the island chain.

On Thursday, the White House announced the search area for Malaysia Airlines flight 370 was expanding into the Indian Ocean and deployed the destroyer USS Kidd to search the area.
