The U.S. Geological Survey registered it as a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at 2:07 a.m. with an epicenter at a depth of 80 kilometers in the Inland Sea and 100 miles southwest of Hirsohima, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The agency noted there was no risk of the quake producing a tsunami.
