White House says search area expanding for missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370

The White House weighed in on the case of missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370, suggesting Thursday that a new search area may soon be examined.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that the search may expand to a new area in the Indian Ocean as the U.S. partners with other countries in the search efforts, "following leads where we find them."

A day earlier, Carney said during the daily press briefing that "U.S. air safety officials are in Kuala Lumpur working closely with the Malaysian government on the investigation. ... and we continue to participate actively in the search as well as assist the Malaysian government in the investigation."

The U.S. has dispatched "assets" to the region to aid the search, Carney said, including aircraft, helicopters, and two destroyers.
