President Obama discusses Ukraine with Kazakh president

During a phone call with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan on Monday, U.S. President Barack Obama discussed the crisis in Ukraine and "encouraged Kazakhstan to play an active role in finding a peaceful outcome for Ukraine."

U.S. President Barack Obama spoke with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan on Monday regarding the crisis in Ukraine.

According to the White House, the two presidents agreed that a peaceful resolution is needed to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. That resolution, they both agreed, must respect Ukraine's sovereign territorial integrity.

Obama "noted U.S. commitment to the principle that the Ukrainian people be able to decide their future without fear of foreign interference" and "also encouraged Kazakhstan to play an active role in finding a peaceful outcome for Ukraine."
