JERUSALEM, March 10 (UPI) -- A Palestinian man killed as he crossed the border between Jordan and the West Bank attacked an Israeli soldier, the Israeli military said Monday.
The man, identified by the Palestinian Authority as Raed ala a-din Nafa Zeiter, 38, of Samaria, Israel, crossed a bridge over the Jordan River at the Allenby terminal between the two countries and attempted to take a weapon from an Israeli soldier, the Jerusalem Post reported Monday.
The Israeli military said the reported assailant was shot by the soldier.
The Israeli radio station Arutz Sheva reported a Jordanian security official said Zeiter worked as a magistrates in Amman, Jordan, which was confirmed by the Jordanian Ministry of Justice.
Palestinian Authority sources, however, said Zeiter had not lived in Samaria since 2011. The PA called for an international investigation of the incident, Arutz Sheva said.
