TRIPOLI, Libya, March 6 (UPI) -- Saadi Gadhafi, a son of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, is being held in a prison in Tripoli after being extradited from Niger Thursday, officials said.
Gadhafi, who was seeking asylum in Niger, is being held on charges he allegedly was behind recent ethnic clashes in Libya that have cost dozens of people their lives, as well as attempting to repress the 2011 revolution, the Financial Times reported.
Unlike his brother, Saif al-Islam, Saadi Gadhafi was not wanted by international authorities for war crimes. Saif al-Islam Gadhafi was arrested soon after his father's fall from power during the 2011 uprising.
Libyan lawmakers said they were pleased to hear Gadhafi had been extradited.
"The chair of the General National Congress congratulates the families of the martyrs, the people and the revolutionaries for the extradition of Saadi Gadhafi," Libya's Parliament said in a statement. "The prosecutor-general received him Thursday morning."
Gahdafi has undergone a medical examine and would soon be questioned by prosecutors, the WAL news agency reported.
