PYONGYANG, North Korea, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- North Korea launched four short-range missiles Thursday, South Korea's Defense Ministry said.

The missiles, thought to be ballistic missiles, were launched from North Korea's east coast about 5:42 p.m. and were aimed at northeastern waters, South Korean TV network KBS reported.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said the missiles had an estimated range of about 125 miles.

CNN noted the firing of the missiles by the North came as South Korea and the United States conduct joint military exercises that Pyongyang opposes.
