BOGOTA, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Prosecutor said they have asked the Colombian Supreme Court to investigate the involvement of governors and leaders in the 1998 Cano Jabon massacre.
The court will investigate former Gen.l Freddy Padilla de Leon's role in the massacre, in which at least 20 civilians were killed and the village was burned down.
The investigation will look into whether the former commander of the army Hugo Mario Gaitan, the former director of national police Rosso Jose Serrano and ex-commander of the Fourth Army Brigade former Gen. Augustin Ardilla, responded adequately to the village's pleas for protection.
Two former governors, Alfonso Ortiz Duran and Edmundo Bautista Usola, will be investigated for their role in the killings, Colombia Reports said.
The massacre occurred on May 4, 1998, when a paramilitary force of 200 people attacked the Cano Jabon village.
