Bus, truck collide in Thailand, 14 killed

BANGKOK, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- At least 14 people died and 40 more were injured early Friday in central Thailand when their tour bus collided with an 18-wheel trailer truck, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after midnight in Prachin Buri province, the Bangkok Nation reported. The tour bus was carrying school students and teachers on sight-seeing trips to Chomthien Beach, Pattaya in Chon Buri.

The Nation quoted police as saying the bus went out control after its brakes malfunctioned while going down a mountain road and crashed into the truck.

Police said 11 people died at the scene and three others died at the Nadee hospital. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
