MEERUT, India, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Schools and colleges closed because a leopard roamed about Meerut, India, reopened Tuesday with police still hunting for the big cat that injured eight people.
The cat was last seen late Sunday when it fled from a hospital where it had wandered. Since then, Meerut police have been searching for the animal that reportedly entered a movie house and an apartment complex Monday, NDTV reported.
"We are trying to track leopard prints. It is mentally agitated and angry so we are ready with all equipment to capture it," said Indian Police Service Deputy Inspector General Satya Narayan said. "It may have hidden in any forest area."
The animal attacked eight people, including a photographer, Sunday before it fled into the hospital, where employees took patients out and locked the leopard in, NDTV said. Despite being hit by a tranquilizer dart, the leopard escaped through a window and vanished.
