Two children killed after landslide destroys chalet in French Alps

ISOLA, France, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Two children were killed Sunday morning when a giant boulder crushed their ski chalet in the French Alps, authorities said.

The children, ages 7 and 10, were staying near the resort of Isola 2000 when a landslide occurred at 5 a.m., the British newspaper the Mirror reported.

Two families, including five adults and two children, were staying at the chalet.

"Three of the survivors managed to get out of the rubble alone, while the remaining two had to be freed by the emergency service," Gendarme Commander Gael Marchand said.

The victims and survivors have not been identified.
