SEOUL, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Rallies in Seoul Friday called attention to Japan's claims of territorial possession of South Korea's easternmost islands, with protests at Japan's embassy.

The small islands in the East Sea, known as Dokdo in South Korea and Takeshima in Japan, are the focus of "Takeshima Day," which Japan's Shimane prefecture has observed every Feb. 22 since 2005, to support Japanese claims of possession.

More than 100 people protested before the Japanese Embassy in Seoul Friday, before a press conference at which members of the Dokdo Network said, "The Japanese right-wing regime must immediately stop educating Japan's next generations about Takeshima," to which followers chanted, "Stop Distorting History!," the South Korean Yonhap News Agency reported.
