Poster claims moms of lawmakers 'should have had abortions'

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A poster saying the mothers of certain regional Spanish lawmakers should have had abortions could be threatening and defamatory, leaders of their party charge.

The poster, seen in several towns in the region of Catalonia, charges members of the People's Party with opposing women's' rights, ThinkSpain reported Monday.

"Your mothers should have had an abortion" the poster says, naming 22 PP members including Dolors Montserrat, the third vice president of Catalonia's parliament.

Regional party officials claimed the poster was produced by members of feminist group La Ruda, which has began a campaign to "humiliate" PP members into boycotting proposed abortion reforms.

Publication of the poster may break a number of laws, PP members said, including threatening behavior, libel and incitement to hatred and violence, as well as crimes against state institutions.
