39 people dead and 2,000 houses destroyed after attack in Nigeria

KONDUGA, Nigeria, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- An insurgent attack in Konduga, Nigeria, left 39 people killed, more than 50 injured and more than 2,000 houses burnt, government officials said.

Boko Haram launched the attack on Tuesday and stormed the town with two armored trucks, the Daily Trust reported.

Almost 80 percent of the town is destroyed, including the mosque, schools, hospitals, court library and other public buildings.

Gov. Kashim Shettima visited the town Wednesday and stressed that the Boko Haram have no reason to do what they did.

He directed relief materials to be given to the traumatized locals.
