Toronto mayor ticketed for jaywalking in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, in Vancouver for a memorial service, was ticketed for jaywalking, his spokesman confirmed Saturday.

Ford spokesman Amin Massoudi told the Toronto Sun in an email that the mayor was ticketed Friday night for crossing a street illegally.

"He did not receive any other tickets or citations," Massoudi said.

Ford, who was in town for a memorial for the mother of friend and former staffer David Price, told the newspaper he was "speechless" when he was given the citation.

"I am in shock," said the mayor, who has been the subject of headlines in recent months for admitting he has used crack cocaine. "I was just walking across the street about 200 feet from my hotel when I was approached by an officer and told I was jaywalking. I couldn't believe it. I said to them 'Am I under arrest?'"
