BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Measures are being taken to protect Lebanese political figures who are facing death threats, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said.
"[Security forces] are also taking measures on the level of the entire country to preserve the safety of citizens," Charbel told the Ash-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.

His comments came after Prime Minister Najib Mikati received assassination threats, the (Beirut) Daily Star reported.
Security officials said that the threat involved an explosives-rigged vehicle that would have targeted Mikati in Tripoli or Beirut.
In response to the threat, Mikati said that the entire country is in danger because of regional turmoil.
