Court: Man accused of planning wife's killing can be extradited

LONDON, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A London court has ruled Shrien Dewani can be extradited to South Africa where he is accused of planning his wife's killing.

Dewani has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and his lawyers argued their client should not be sent to South Africa until he was proved fit to be tried, the BBC reported Friday.

But the London judges ruled Dewani can be extradited if the South African government agreed to return him if he is considered unfit for trail.

South African authorities have indicated they are willing to accept that condition, the BBC said.

Dewani, who is in the hospital, was kidnapped with his wife Anni in 2010 in Cape Town.

Dewani was released unharmed but his wife was found dead in a car the next day.

South African Xolile Mngeni was later convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors have alleged Dewani hired Mngeni to kill his wife.

Dewani has denied the accusations.
