The most violent clashes took place in eastern Cairo, Ahram Online said. Some of those arrested were accused of carrying Molotov cocktails, fireworks, live ammunition and birdshot rifles.

Egypt's Interior Ministry said in a statement late Saturday that security forces prevented "the Muslim Brotherhood's terrorist plot to disrupt celebrations" by "attempting to block roads, chant hostile slogans and provoke riots."
