Officials critical of Rob Ford after latest drunken video

TORONTO, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- A Toronto city councilman said the latest video to surface showing a drunken Mayor Rob Ford is proof he's "not able to change."

Ford, who made international headlines last year after a video surfaced of him smoking crack in a drunken stupor, had pledged publicly he was finished drinking. The YouTube video that surfaced Tuesday shows Ford rambling drunkenly in a Jamaican accent while waiting for a food takeout order in the city.

Ford admitted he was drinking the night the video was taken but said he was on "my own time" and in the company of friends, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

City Councilman Michael Thompson said he was "just dumbfounded" when he saw the latest video of Ford's misbehavior.

"We'd heard from the mayor that he was turning over a new leaf," Thompson said. "Everyone was hoping that he would change. We're learning now that he hasn't changed, he's not able to change."

Ford has refused to resign his office, despite near-universal calls from public officials to do so, and has said he will seek re-election this fall. In the meantime, the council has stripped him of any meaningful duties and is instead working with the city's deputy mayor on day-to-day operations.
