Morsi ordered to face trial on new accusations of terrorism

CAIRO, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Egypt's deposed president must face charges he worked with terrorist groups to commit acts of terror in Egypt, a Cairo appeals court ruled Tuesday.

The order for Mohamed Morsi to stand trial Feb. 16 comes during his current trial on charges of incitement to murder and violence in connection with clashes in December 2012, Ahram Online reported.

The latest charges accuse Morsi and 35 others, including fellow members of the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood and former presidential advisers, of collaborating with groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah to conduct terrorism in Egypt, revealing defense secrets to a foreign country, funding terrorism and carrying out military training "to achieve the purposes of the international organization of the Brotherhood."

The offenses are alleged to have been committed between 2005 and 2013.

The prosecutor general's office also has charged the Brotherhood with terrorist attacks on the army and police following Morsi's ouster.
