MUMBAI, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Indian defense officials said a long-range nuclear-capable missile test conducted Monday was a "100 percent success" after it hit a target 2,500 miles away.
Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony congratulated developers of the Agni-IV surface-to-surface missile after the test launch went off without a hitch, Indo-Asian News Service reported. The missile, which is capable of correcting its flight path after launch, covered the distance in about 20 minutes and hit its intended target, officials said.
The Agni-IV is capable of carrying a nuclear payload.
"The test was a 100 percent success. It has met all mission requirements," test range director M.V.K.V. Prasad said.
Antony said the successful test, the second on the missile system since 2012, means the missiles are ready for full-scale production and will help improve the nation's military readiness.
